Advanced Cataract Solutions

Our surgeons at Metropolitan Eye Center have performed over 20,000 cataract procedures since 1985. We specialize in the No Stitch, No Patch technique that requires minimum sedation. The procedure is performed as an outpatient procedure within our building at Lakeshore Eye Surgery Center and often takes only fifteen minutes or less to perform.

We pride ourselves in having the most advanced diagnostic technology available to help us provide the best surgical outcomes. This is particularly important in determining how you want to see after your cataract procedure.

Your natural lens that develops the cataract will be replaced by an artificial Intra-Ocular Lens (IOL). You and your surgeon will have a personal conversation about your postoperative vision preferences. Some patients don’t mind continuing wearing glasses while others want to take advantage of the opportunity to see near, intermediate and distant without dependence on glasses or contact lenses. After a thorough examination and review of your diagnostic tests, our surgeon will suggest the IOL best suited for you. Currently we offer standard IOLs, multifocal IOLs (AcrySof ReStor and Tecnis Multifocal), and Toric IOLs (AcrySof Toric and Tecnis Toric).

Basic cataract surgery is mostly covered by Medicare along with a standard IOL. For those patients electing advanced IOLs that are not covered by insurance, we offer CareCredit patient financing.

Additionally, some patients who are not good candidates for LASIK, over the age of 40 and wish to have their natural lenses replaced with a Multifocal IOL, we offer a procedure called Refractive Lens Exchange.
